Biography

Born in France in 1974, Sébastien Foucan is the founder and creator of freerunning. Sébastien is well known for his views on the philosophy behind freerunning and is an ambassador for the discipline in many countries across the globe. 

It was while Sébastien and his friends were growing up in Lisses, (France) in the 1980’s, that they began to develop an obstacle led style of play which they named ‘parcours’ after the military training, ‘parcours du combattant’.

After leaving school, Sébastien went into military service as a fire fighter in Paris between 1995 – 1997 and throughout that time, he continued to develop his own style of parcours into what is now known as ‘freerunning’. In 2001, Sébastien choreographed, managed and performed his first freerunning show in Frankfurt, Germany.

Sébastien came to prominence in the UK after the showing of the Channel 4 documentary, Jump London, in 2003 and subsequent documentary aired in 2005 – Jump Britain. Sébastien appeared in the music video for Madonna’s 2005 single, Jump, and went on to accompany Madonna on her 2006 Confessions Tour.

It was also in 2006 that Sébastien made his acting debut, starring as Mollaka in the 21st James Bond film; Casino Royale. In 2008, Sébastien’s first book Freerunning – Find Your Way was published. The book highlights the philosophies and values behind freerunning and how they can be applied to your daily life. Throughout his career, Sébastien has been sought after for product promotion and endorsements and has been sponsored by sports companies, Nike and Fila. He has also starred in the Nike Angry Chicken and Toyota Scion television commercials and became the Main Freerunning figure for K-Swiss helping them to launch the Ariake, the first freerunning and parkour shoe in a line of 5 models. BET Networks, the leading provider of entertainment content for African Americans, used Sébastien in their 2008 ‘Follow the Leader’ ad campaign.

Following the success of Casino Royale, Sébastien went on to star in The Tournament (released in 2009) playing the role of assassin Anton Bogart.

Since 2011, Sebastien has established his own Foucan Freerunning Academy and has become a well respected public speaking for corporations, international governing bodies, sports clubs and schools.
